This became known during meeting on development of livestock breeding, which was attended by Director of the Department of animal husbandry and breeding of the Ministry of agriculture Kharon Amerkhanov, reports The DairyNews with reference to the Ministry of agriculture of the Russian Federation.
In his speech, Kharon Amerkhanov noted that the region has the necessary resources to increase milk production and to provide domestic needs in high-quality genetic material.
"Beef and dairy cattle breeding in Vladimir region must develop; there is a good start for that. So, in Russia as a whole the proportion of dairy cattle breeding is 13.5% of the total population, and in the region this figure reached 54%," – said the Kharon Amerkhanov.
The Deputy Governor of Vladimir region Alexander Trutnev said that the region produces milk by 23% more than it consumes. According to him, the reserve for use of agricultural land and development of livestock breeding in the region is very high.
"For several years in a row the volume of milk production has been increasing. Yield per cow is also growing: if last year it was 6.4 thousand liters, this year it is planned to achieve the level of 7 thousand liters of milk per cow per year", – said Alexander Trutnev.
Today breeding organizations in the region are engaged in improving the breeding and productive qualities of dairy cattle breeds. On October 1 of the current year there were registered 30 940 heads of pedigree dairy cows, which is 54.8% of the total number of cows in the region. In 2016, the average milk yield per one breeding cow was 7 432 kg of milk.
