As Alexander Shcherbenok, Head of the Chief Department of the processing industry of the Ministry of agriculture and food of Belarus, noted during the IV export forum “Dairy Belarus”, 60% of milk produced in the Republic is exported, writes The DairyNews from the event.
The expert reminded that the consumption of milk and dairy products in Belarus per capita is higher than the world average and amounts to 251 kg.
"60% of milk produced in Belarus is exported. At the same time, 66.4% of animal butter, 78.1% of cheeses, almost 100% of whole milk powder, 28.6% of whole - milk products, 91% of canned milk, 88.4% of whey is exported," Alexander Shcherbenok said.
In 2017, dairy products worth $ 4.9 billion were supplied to more than 80 countries of the world.
"In the world rating of exporters in January 2018 we take the second place in condensed milk; the third place in butter and whey, the fourth place in cheeses and the fifth - in milk powder", - said the official.
According to the Ministry of agriculture, in January-March 2018 Belarusian enterprises processed 1.5 million tons of milk, which is 1.2% more than during the same period in 2017. Brest region is the leader in milk processing in Belarus.
"2017 was a good year for us, the enterprises earned and sent money for modernization. For example, Verkhnedvinskiy dairy plant increased production capacity from 180 to 240 tons per day", - said Alexander Shcherbenok. Reconstruction is being carried out at Belovezhskiy dairy plant, Baranovichskiy dairy plant, Rogachevskiy dairy plant and other enterprises.
"More than 30-40% of the revenue enterprises invest in modernization, expand the range and work on the promotion at foreign markets", - said the official of the Ministry of agriculture and food of the Republic of Belarus.
