Altai region can't sell cheese and butter for almost 5 billion rubles
For example, there are twice as many cheeses stored in warehouses of large processing enterprises as there were a year ago. The stocks of butter and whey have tripled. According to Head of the regional Department for food and processing industry Alexander Bolshakov, the total volume of unsold dairy products is estimated at 4 billion 800 million rubles. Part of the problem is seasonal. However, products have not piled up in such volumes in summer before. The situation was aggravated by coronavirus restrictions, believes Alexander Bolshakov.
“This was facilitated by a decrease in consumption, primarily in social institutions that were closed with the beginning of the coronavirus epidemic. We are talking about schools, kindergartens, institutes and other educational institutions. We hope that the situation will change as Russia's withdrawal from the regime of restrictions. At the same time, enterprises are not sitting still, looking for new forms of sales of their products, including through online trading, looking for new agreements outside the region with retail chains that they have not worked with yet”.
- Alexander Bolshakov, Head of the regional Department for food and processing industry.
At the beginning of June, the dairy product reserves in the region were estimated at about 4 billion rubles. For a month and a half, the region produced cheese and butter for another billion rubles. So far, the production has not been suspended.
