Amerkhanov: 4.3% of farms produce 35% of milk in Russia

"We are able to increase milk production by intensifying the industry, genetics, technologies, herd management," Amerkhanov said.

According to the Ministry of agriculture, the number of dairy cows in the sector of agricultural enterprises is 2.8 million head. In the sector of individual farms, this figure is 686 thousand head. The share of individual farms is a little more than 10.2%, however, the Agency notes an increase in the use of genetic potential of cattle in the sector of individual farms.

In addition, in 52 regions of the Russian Federation in 2017, the number of cattle was reduced by 85 thousand heads.

Describing the situation in the production of milk, Kharon Amerkhanov noted that in Russia the share of farms with livestock less than 400 head is 88%. From 400 to 800 head – 7.7%, while the share of farms with livestock from 800 to 2400 and more head is only 4,3%.

"At the same time, 4.3% of farms produce 35% of Russian milk (we are talking about large farms), 22% of milk falls on average farms and farms with a livestock population of less than 400 head - 44.1%", - said the Director of the Department.
