Belarus has to supply to Russia cheap dairy products

Belarus is forced to supply Russia with cheap dairy products, while looking for partners for its export to other countries, said the Director of the Russian Dairy Research Center (RDRC) Mikhail Mishchenko on the sidelines of the conference "Prospects of development of cheesemaking in Russia. The area of Altai Krai and Republic of Altai" in Barnaul, reports The DairyNews.
Expert has described as a myth the view that Russia depends on Belarusian dairy products.
"That's not true, because they depend on us. Russia in the export structure of dairy products of RB accounts for 98%, it means that the Belarusians cannot supply their products anywhere else. They are now actively trying to start selling in other countries," said Mikhail Mishchenko, adding that at present Russia retains its leading position among buyers of dairy produce from Belarus.
Separately, the analyst told about government support of the dairy industry of Belarus, allowing milk processors to maintain low prices for export products.
"If you deliver almost everything that you produce to one country, the buyer may do anything with you. (...) The Belarusians suffer from it not less than we do," said Mikhail Mishchenko, expressing the view that "neighbors" can produce more quality products to be sent to Russia, but they will still have "to sell it for the same prices at which they are selling" now. Thus the export "is a quality product."
