The expert noted that since 2017, a serious reduction in the population of Russia is predicted, which will lead to the fact that the market of baby food in our country will not grow. He stressed that in 2020, there was a drop in the number of children aged 0 to 4 years.
According to Mikhail Mishchenko, the volume of the breast milk substitute market in 2019 amounted to approximately 35 thousand tons. By 2030, it will be reduced to 27 thousand tons.
‘We have a growing volume of whey, which will lead to an increase in exports. At the same time, we import 34.8 thousand tons of breast milk substitute, and export about 16.8 thousand tons to the CIS countries. The production of breast milk substitute from our raw materials is about 2.5 thousand tons,’ the expert noted.
He believes that in the current situation, 93% of breast milk substitutes in Russia are imported or produced from imported components.
The expert stressed that the main prospects in terms of population growth are observed in Africa and the Middle East, so they are most interesting for exports. At the same time, Mikhail Mishchenko noted, the environmental situation will deteriorate in them.
