Consumer demand moves towards cheap dairy products in Russia

Erosion of purchasing power moves the demand towards more cheap dairy products in Russia – those, which contain milk substitutes like palm oil and others. Import of palm oil increased during 9 months period approximately by 30%, according to RF Counting Chamber information.
In 2014 milk and dairy products self-sufficiency in Russia reached 78.6%. The Chamber’s specialists admit tangled situation in this sphere.
166 investment projects and 3 projects as part of implementation of project financing mechanism, planned for nearest years, could make it possible to increase milk production to 350.9 thousand tons in 2015-2018 and to substitute around 7.8% of import or less than 1% from total volume. The return of planned measures regarding milk production increase will not be sufficient, the threshold requirement of the Food Security Doctrine may not be reached, say the Counting Chamber auditors.
