Dairy enterprises need to come to a common decision on product packaging before introducing labeling
‘Each type of packaging of dairy products is a separate solution. We have several packaging options at our disposal and each individual line must be supplied with printers or labeling equipment, and so on. We believe that before introducing labeling of dairy products, enterprises need to come to a single decision on packaging, which will bring the entire process into a holistic information field. There are point-to-point solutions for each packaging line, but there is no specific option for a single program. I think that the agreement between enterprises on a single solution for packaging dairy products will be the most difficult stage in the implementation of this project,’ Polyakov said.
The Head of the Department noted that now the company Yadrinmoloko is not involved in the project on labeling of dairy products. The company had previously received an offer to participate in the pilot, but at that time, Yadrinmoloko was not ready yet to accept it. Currently, the company is working on various options for introducing a product labeling system: printers and labeling are being considered, but no final decisions have been made yet.
Yadrinmoloko has communicated with a number of companies regarding a single solution for packaging dairy products, and all these companies offer one thing: either pet bottles or packages for cottage cheese. But the integration and functioning of this process is still not observed, adds Polyakov.
According to him, the introduction of labeling of dairy products is aimed at simplifying the work of retail chains and consumer life, but milk producers and processors will have to face an inevitable number of difficulties: from the efforts that will have to be invested at the launch stage of the pilot project, to the physical component, when the company must supply specific bottles of milk to the store, which will increase production costs by at least 15%.
Earlier, The DairyNews reported the opinion of Executive Manager of the Marketing Department of the Crimean dairy products factory Novator Yulia Nakonechnaya regarding the labeling of dairy products. According to her, Russia does not have a loyal state loan program for the Honest mark project, which means that some dairy enterprises will not be able to overcome the transition to the labeling system.
