Dairy Index DIA has increased by 0.11% to 27.03 rubles (about 0.35 euros)/kg

On June 1, 2020 Dairy Index DIA amounted to 27.03 rubles (about 0.35 euros)/kg (excluding VAT, fat and protein content 3.6% and 3.0% respectively), which is 0.11% higher than last week and by 4.9% higher than in June 2019. DIA analysts updated import indicators according to the Federal customs service, the share of imports increased, and the index increased in this regard. Prices for raw milk in Russian regions according to the Index DIA application continue to decline, while prices for some exchange-traded products increased last week.

According to the application Index DIA the weighted average price of milk in Russia last week decreased by 0.08% to 25.37 rubles (about 0.33 euros)/kg, which is 3.5% higher than the price in early June in 2019. Prices for raw milk increased in Saratov and Yaroslavl regions. The decline in prices for raw milk was observed in Moscow, Kaliningrad, Samara and Altai regions.

The import price index decreased by 0.5% to 31.02 rubles (about 0.40 euros)/kg, compared with early June, 2019 the index is lower by 0.5%. DIA has updated the data on import volumes of exchange-traded products based on the latest data of the FCS in March 2020, when imports of milk powder and butter increased on the background of news about the pandemic, in this regard, the share of import prices in calculating the index increased. The share of a pair of skimmed milk powder + butter increased, while the share of the more expensive pair of cheese + whey decreased due to a decrease in the volume of cheese imports, which led to a general decrease in the import price index.

The ruble strengthened slightly compared to last week. The price of Belarusian butter fell by 5.4% last week, while the price of skimmed milk powder increased by 2%, the price of cheese increased by 0.4%, and the price of whole milk powder - by 0.2%. At the auction of Trigona Dairy Trade, prices for skimmed milk powder, cheese and whey powder rose, while the price of butter remained at the level of the previous auction. The price of butter, taking into account the strengthening of the ruble, decreased by 1.16% to 254.3 rubles (about 3.28 euros)/kg, the price of cheddar increased by 3.7% to 250.4 rubles (about 3.23 euros)/kg, the price of skimmed milk powder increased by 1% to 176 rubles (about 2.27)/kg. The price of whey powder increased by 0.1% to 61.8 rubles (about 0.80 euros)/kg.

The import price of a pair of skimmed milk powder + butter increased by 0.13% to 29.9 rubles (about 0.39 euros)/ kg (1 kg in terms of milk). The import price of a pair of cheese + whey increased by 0.25% to 32.42 rubles (about 0.42 euros)/kg. The price of whole milk powder decreased by 1.65% to 23.79 rubles (about 0.31 euros)/kg.   


The new value of Dairy Index DIA will be published on June 8, 2020.

Dairy Index DIA
Dairy Index DIA is calculated based on two key indicators, the weighted average price of milk in the Russian regions and the Index of import price. To calculate the weighted average price, the Center developed and launched a crowdsourcing application Index DIA, which allows accumulating current data on the prices of raw milk in the Russian regions from direct market participants, producers and processors of milk. The Index of import price is determined based on the prices of key exchange dairy products – skim milk powder, whole milk powder, butter, cheese and whey powder. The prices of imported dairy products are based on the prices of dairy products of the Belarusian universal commodity exchange (BUCE) and the prices at the sites of Trigona Dairy Trade and GlobalDairyTrade.
