Dairy Index RDRC has decreased to 23.66 rubles/kg

We will remind that the Russian Dairy Research Center (RDRC) has launched a crowdsourcing app Index RDRC to calculate prices for raw milk on the Russian market. The weighted average price of raw milk in Russia is now calculated on the basis of data provided by the participants of the dairy market (producers and processors of milk).

In order to get access to the price of raw milk in the regions of Russia, users need to get registered on the application page and enter weekly updated data on the price of raw milk in their region and the volume of production/processing of milk in their company. According to the application Index RDRC weighted average price of milk in Russia amounted to 22.83 rubles / kg, which is 3.14% lower than last week and 11.13% lower than the average price of March 2017.

The import price index, by contrast, continues to grow, last week the index rose by 1.57% to 26.57 rubles/kg, which is 2.47% higher than the average in March 2017. A key factor in the growth of the indicator was the weakening of the ruble against the Euro. At the auction Trigona Dairy Trade last week the price of butter decreased, but the price of whey powder slightly increased, however, a key factor in the dynamics of growth in import prices of these products was the exchange rate of the ruble to the Euro. The price of butter in rubles increased by 1.3% and amounted to 338.54 rubles/kg, the price of whey powder rose by 8.04% to 46.9 rubles / kg. Prices of skimmed milk powder and cheese at the auction did not change, but in the Russian currency they also increased by 2.36%. The price of cheese amounted to 225.7 rubles / kg, the price of skimmed milk powder was 91.7 rubles / kg. 

At the auction of BUCE prices for key stock dairy products remained at the level of last week. The Rosselkhoznadzor postponed for the second time the ban on the supply of raw milk from the Republic of Belarus to March 15, but imposed temporary restrictions on the supply of dairy products from two Belarusian dairy plants.

Last week, at the 207th auction of GDT (Global Dairy Trade), the price index for dairy products fell by 0.6%, prices for butter and dehydrated milk fat fell, prices for skimmed milk powder and cheddar continued to rise. The price of whole milk powder decreased by 0.8%.

The import price of a pair of skimmed milk powder + butter rose by 0.56% to 28.8 rubles/kg (1 kg recalculated for milk). The import price of a pair of cheese + whey increased by 2.31% to 25.22 rubles/kg. The price of whole milk powder remained at the level of 22.94 rubles/kg.

Dairy Index RDRC is calculated based on two key indicators, weighted average price of milk in “regions-exporters” (raw milk) and “regions-importers” and the Index of import price. To calculate the weighted average price the Center developed and launched a crowdsourcing application Index RDRC, which allows accumulating current data on the prices of raw milk in Russian regions from direct market participants, producers and processors of milk. The index of import price is based on the stock prices of key dairy products – skimmed milk powder, whole milk powder, butter, cheese and whey powder. Prices of imported dairy products are calculated based on the prices of dairy products of the Belarusian universal commodity exchange (BUCE) and the price at the sites of Trigona Dairy Trade and GlobalDairyTrade.
