Dairy Index RDRC on April 24, 2017, made 25.00 RUR/kg (without VAT, with fat and protein content 3.6% and 3.0% respectively), 0.04% higher than the index of April 17. The increase of the Dairy Index RDRC is due to the rising of the Index of import prices, amounting to 26.03 RUB/kg, 1.36% higher than last week. The Index of domestic prices, however, continued to decline and made 24.65 rubles/kg, 0.4% below the previous value.
The index of domestic prices, as the graph shows, fell by 0.4% to 24.65 rubles/kg. Regions-exporters seasonally increase milk production; therefore the prices for raw milk in these regions are falling. The average prices for raw milk in the regions-exporters on April 24 decreased to 23.57 rubles/kg, 0.72% lower than the value of 17 April and by 4.2% in comparison with the beginning of the month. The most significant decline in the price for raw milk was observed in Novosibirsk region, the price fell by 2.87% compared to last week.
Regions-customers in their turn try to reduce the purchase price for milk. The average price of milk in the regions-importers made 25.92 rubles/kg, 0.15% lower than on 17 April and 0.33% lower than at the beginning of the month.
The highest price for raw milk among the key regions-exporters and regions-importers is observed in Moscow region. According to the Russian Dairy Research Center on April 24, the average purchase price of milk in Moscow region amounted to 27.36 rubles/kg, 0.28% (by 6 kopecks) higher than last week. The lowest price in these regions is in Kirov region, on 24 April, the price in the region was 21.42 rubles/kg.
The growth of the Dairy Index RDRC was primarily due to the increase of the Index of import prices. Prices for dairy products on the global stock exchanges demonstrated growth last week, in this regard, the import price increased for a pair skimmed milk powder + butter - by 0.59%, the import price of whole milk powder increased by 2.38%, a pair of Cheese+Whey rose by 1.93%. Therefore, the Index of import prices rose by 1.36% to 26.03 rubles/kg.

Thus we can see that the domestic market is experiencing a downward trend in milk prices, but prices on the global market, in case of further growth can maintain a relatively high price for raw milk in Russia.
New Dairy Index RDRC will be published on May 1.
Dairy Index RDRC
Dairy Index RDRC is calculated based on two key indicators Index of domestic price and Index of import price. The index of domestic price is calculated on the basis of the average price for raw milk in the " exporting regions " (of raw milk), which include the Republic of Tatarstan, Novosibirsk, Vologda and Kirov region and in the "importing regions" - Moscow region, Altai region, Krasnodar region and Bryansk region. The index of import price is based on the stock prices of key dairy products – skimmed milk powder, whole milk powder, butter, cheese and whey powder. Prices of imported dairy products are calculated based on the prices of dairy products of the Belarusian universal commodity exchange (BUCE) and the price at the sites of Trigona Dairy Trade and GlobalDairyTrade.
