Danone has decided to invest $19.4 million (16.5 million euros) to add a new production line to Alpro plant in Issenheim (north-east of France).
According to representatives of Danone, after the project is implemented in a production site in Alsace, the plant will become the largest plant-based beverage production enterprise in Europe.
By July 2022, the plant will reach new capacities for the production of beverages based on soy, oats, coconut, rice, almonds and hazelnuts.
‘These investments are part of the Alpro brand's desire to democratize the plants, increasing their production capacity by another 70,000 tons per year. Our site regularly works with 400 partner farmers to develop the supply of local raw materials and increase the share of soy-based products in the region,’ commented Frederick Loeb, Head of the plant in Issenheim.
According to Danone, up to 80% of the raw materials used in beverages are supplied to the plant in Issenheim by local farmers.
