Dmitry Peskov commented on the situation with food prices in Russia
Thus he commented on the information about the supposedly upcoming new increase in food prices in Russia.
‘There are current instructions from the President to the Cabinet of Ministers, and as part of the execution of these instructions, the government has established permanent mechanisms to monitor price growth. These mechanisms are aimed at preventing an abrupt increase (in prices),’ a Kremlin spokesman told reporters.
At the same time, according to Peskov, inflationary processes also affect price growth.
‘But, on the other hand, there are also objective processes (of food price increases - Ed.) - these are inflationary processes, which, unfortunately, take place, and unfavorable international situation, which also puts pressure on prices in terms of their increase. But there are both subjective factors that the government is actively working with, and objective factors that just need to be taken for granted - I mean inflationary processes,’ he added.
On October 20, Russian President Vladimir Putin instructed the government to present a set of measures to protect agricultural producers and control food prices in Russia as soon as possible. The Russian leader called on the government to make "not some alarmist decisions, but verified, prepared in advance and calculated."
As the Ministry of Industry and Trade told Izvestia on October 14, the agency recommended that retail chains switch to direct contracts with suppliers of socially important products like milk, meat, eggs and vegetables to reduce food prices.
In addition, the Ministry of Industry and Trade is waiting for the State Duma to consider a bill aimed at the development of non-stationary and mobile delivery trade. The document contains rules for regulating activities, which can also contribute to improving the situation with food prices.
