During "Cheese days" in the framework of the gastronomic festival "Golden Autumn" 60 tons of cheese was sold. As noted in the press service of the Ministry of Agriculture, the sale surpassed the expectations of the farmers by 20%, according to The DairyNews.
The Ministry of Agriculture informed that 60 producers from 20 regions brought 100 varieties of first class Russian cheese. On the three festival fairs in the city centre it was possible to purchase natural farm cheeses from Yaroslavl, Lipetsk, Vladimir, Nizhny Novgorod, Moscow and other regions. In total the cheese-makers managed to sell 60 tons. Among the most demanded varieties were Roquefort, Camembert, Gorgonzola and Mozzarella.
"Over the last two years the cheese-making began to develop rapidly in Russia, largely it became possible due to the fact that the niche has been cleared and the domestic producers got the access to markets. In addition, the government subsidizes the loans for the purchase of raw materials purchase of machinery and equipment for milk processors. And these measures of support are available, both for large and small dairies. “Cheese days” has shown that our farmers can also produce decent products, but in recent years, due to the dominance of imported products on the shelves, we have ceased to believe in ourselves but we have a lot to be proud of. There is a revival of ancient traditions, in the beginning of the XX century the domestic farms were famous for high-quality cheeses. We have the highest requirements to production technologies and product quality. I think that the Russian cheese-making enterprises have great prospects", - said the head of the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia Alexander Tkachev.
