EEC recorded sharp increase of milk imports into CU countries
Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) has recorded a sharp increase of milk imports into Customs Union countries in 2013 due to domestic deficiency and WTO membership. EEC Trade Minister Andrey Slepnyov told that recently after market monitoring was implemented.
During the period from January to November 2013 value of dairy imports to CU from non-CIS countries increased by 25.7%, its volume raised by 17.6% compared to the same period of 2012. Import of cheese and curd increased by 12%, yoghurts and kefir – by 33%, butter – by 46%, milk powder, condensed milk and cream – by 2.1 times. EEC made a conclusion, that growth of import became a result of raw milk deficiency on the domestic market of CU countries. Reduction of customs duties on some dairy products according to WTO requirements also influenced the import market. EEC experts expect import growth to continue and dairy products prices in CU countries to grow because imported milk is highly dependent on world prices.
