Elena Topnikova: cheese consumption in Russia has increased by 9.8%

Director of VNIIMS (All-Russian research Institute of butter and cheese making), doctor of technical sciences Elena Topnikova said in her speech at the forum "Vologda - the dairy capital of Russia" that the consumption of cheese in Russia in 2019 has increased by 9.8%.

According to the expert, the consumption of cheese products on the contrary has decreased by 19.5%. Cheese production for the six months of 2019 amounted to 296.5 thousand tons, the production of cheese products – to 99.9 thousand tons, stressed Elena Topnikova, quoted by The DairyNews.

The expert estimates the actual consumption of cheese in Russia due to production (excluding imports) as 4 kg per capita per year.

"The production of milk fat substitutes in Russia is 200 thousand tons, about 40% goes to the production of spreads", Elena Topnikova said.

Earlier we wrote that according to Rabobank, cheese imports to Russia will increase until 2024.
