Exports of dairy products from the U.S. is growing despite the coronavirus
In March, American suppliers shipped 190,456 tons of milk powder, cheese, whey products, lactose and milk fat, which is 2% more than a year earlier. This is the highest figure since May 2018. In physical volume, exports increased by 3%. In addition, the value of all exports was the highest since August 2014 – $592 million, which is 10% more than a year ago.
Southeast Asia continues to be the main source of growth for American dairy suppliers. Shipments of skimmed milk powder, whole milk powder, whey, lactose and cheese in March totaled a record 49,729 tons, an increase of 10%. The cost of exports was just under $ 120 million, an increase of 33%.
In the first quarter of the year, the value of American exports to Southeast Asia increased by 54% compared to last year, including shipments of skimmed milk powder that increased by 40% and cheeses - by 27%.
