Fonterra’s activities within CU may influence Russian strategic dairy products
Participants of the V Souzmoloko Congress, which took place in Moscow last week, stated that New Zealand CU entry may have a negative effect on Russian dairy market. If the country joins Customs Union, Fonterra will be able to reduce milk powder price to 3,000 dollars per ton. If that happens, Russian strategic dairy products (butter, cheese, milk powder) will disappear from the market, believes Andrey Yarovoy, chairman of Meleuzovsky Dairy Plant. The expert added, that after that the NZ company can raise the price again – to 6,000 dollars per ton.
Commenting this Arkady Dvorkovich, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, said, that the government will take a deliberate decision regarding FTA with New Zealand. “It is necessary to learn other countries’ practices. But we shouldn’t open up the infinite possibilities to our direct competitors”, - he added.
