Food prices in Russia do not cause concern and do not require restraint – Ministry of industry and trade
"We need to understand that due to the increase in the exchange rate, the costs of producers are increasing. Taking into account the fact that half of households have made significant reserves, artificial restraining of prices is a direct way to ruin many producers", the Ministry of industry and trade said in a statement, which was cited by the information center for monitoring the situation with coronavirus in Russia.
The Ministry believes that "the price situation is now stable and does not cause concern".
"In all cases of unjustified price increases, the Ministry of industry and trade and the Ministry of agriculture are working with the FAS of Russia. Retail chains are trying to restrain prices, taking into account the fact that the income of population is not growing", noted in the Ministry.
The Ministry of industry and trade stressed that the high consumer demand that arose in the second half of March 2020 has decreased, and store shelves are full of goods, markets and fairs are operating in most regions.
"According to expert data, 50% of households have made stocks of food with a long shelf life for more than 100 days", reported in the Ministry of industry and trade.
