Georgy Zhitmarev, General Director of “Piskarevsky dairy plant”, who took part in the pilot experiment on labeling, spoke very negatively about the consequences of implementing the system in the dairy industry during an online conference organized by RBC, writes The DairyNews.

According to Georgy Zhitmarev, the plant has been investigating the issue of introducing labeling for seven months, both jointly with the CATD and with the companies involved, as a result of which conclusions were made about the inexpediency of labeling for the industry.

- It is terribly expensive for our market, practically impossible to implement and brings huge risks, - said Zhitmarev.

The expert stressed that many myths about the implementation of the system are currently circulating in the media space. Including the myth that the industry doesn't have labeling.

"That's not true. We have a law on labeling that is fully implemented by dairy companies. All the necessary information is provided on the packaging of each product. The new labeling with the "Honest mark" system adds only a crypto code that says that this jar of sour cream was delivered from this particular plant to this particular store, - said Zhitmarev.

The second myth is that labeling will remove low-quality products from store shelves. This is an error, - believes the expert.

- Marking does not combat falsification. In this matter, the “Mercury” system is much more effective, which records from which farm and in what volume milk was received, in which batch it got and in which store this batch was delivered.

Today Piskarevsky dairy plant issues about 30 thousand veterinary certificates per day.

- The third myth is that the costs of the dairy industry to implement a labeling system will pay off. When? When low-quality products will leave the shelves and honest sellers will take the place of bad ones. But the fact is that even if you pour shoe polish into a jar, you will get an "Honest mark". It only says that this jar is made in this factory. This has nothing to do with the quality of products", said the head of the Piskarevsky dairy plant.

He also noted that there is a problem of falsification in the dairy industry. However, this problem, according to the expert, is solved by “Mercury”. Labeling is aimed at solving the problem of counterfeit goods.

- I have not seen the counterfeit in milk for 20 years, said Zhitmarev.

The expert noted that the cost of software and a printer that will apply labeling is not great, for the Piskarevsky plant it is about 50 million rubles. However, no one counts everything else.

- No one calculates the real costs that we will bear - previously we did not have the task of identifying each jar and there is no equipment manufacturer that could provide such a function. Our production lines are not equipped with such equipment and it is not possible to attach a printer and scanner to them just like that. As a result, we must sometimes think about building new production facilities", said the Director of the company.

According to him, the losses after the introduction of the system can be cosmic.

- Based on the example of the work of the high-tech X5 retail chain and the USAIS system, we know that 1 million bottles got stuck in their stores due to non-reading of codes. For dairy products - no re-labeling will help. These are perishable products and if the code is not read, we will get losses and will be forced to dispose of the products, - said Georgy Zhitmarev.

In general, according to Zhitmarev, the company sees 1 billion rubles of losses after the introduction of labeling.

- 500 million rubles minimum - increase in the cost of logistics and 500 million rubles - expected losses. Despite the fact that we provide a level of service of 98%, - said the expert, noting that the labeling does not give the buyer anything, except for the rise in price on the shelf.

- We advocate the labeling of the tobacco industry, in pharmaceutics, but not in milk - concluded George Zimarev.

Earlier, we wrote that the labeling of dairy products is postponed until 2021.
