Imports of cheese to Ukraine increased three times
At the same time, the total sales volume of cheeses amounted to 46 thousand tons, that is, the imported product took a third of the Ukrainian market.
According to forecasts, the share of imported cheeses will grow and in 2021 every second kilogram of cheese in Ukrainian stores will be imported.
At the same time, the export of cheese from Ukraine has significantly decreased and amounted to 1.8 thousand tons in the first half of 2020. One of the reasons for this situation is high prices for Ukrainian-made cheese compared to low prices for imported products.
In January-March 2020, Ukraine imported dairy products totaling 67.4 million dollars, which is 2.6 times more than in the same period last year. At the same time, export of dairy products from Ukraine this year decreased by 9.3% - to 44.7 million dollars. During this period, there was a significant reduction in exports of cheeses - up to 1,2 thousand tons (-26,1%), condensed milk and cream - up to 4,4 thousand tons (-25,3%), non-condensed milk and cream - up to 4,4 thousand tons (-25,3%).
Ukraine also increased the import of cheeses 2.5 times - up to 10.2 thousand tons, milk powder and condensed milk 2.2 times - up to 1 thousand tons, whey - 2.2 times up to 1.2 thousand tons.
