In January-August, the EU increased exports of butter by 42%
Total exports of dairy products in terms of milk from the EU in January-August 2020 increased by 7% compared to the corresponding period in 2019, in financial terms, exports also increased by 7% compared to 2019.
Exports of dairy products from New Zealand, according to the European Commission, in January-August 2020 decreased in all key positions: whole milk powder (-1%), butter (-9%), cheese (-6%), skimmed milk powder (-6%). Exports from the United States increased: skimmed milk powder (+29%), whole milk powder (+3%) and cheese (+2), while exports of butter decreased by 14%. Australian exports were also below last year's level: butter (-36%), skimmed milk powder (-3%), cheese (-2%) and whole milk powder (-20%). Belarusian exports of cheese increased by 12%, skimmed milk powder – by 6%, and butter exports decreased by 3%. Exports of whole milk powder from Argentina increased by 113% in January-August 2020.
On the other hand, China reduced imports of skimmed milk powder by 10% and whole milk powder by 1%. Japan reduced its cheese imports compared to 2019, but the EU managed to increase its market share to 38%. The US reduced cheese imports by 9%. South Korea and China increased cheese imports by 12% and 11%, respectively.
