Italian cheese makers continue to bear losses due to sanctions

In 2014 the Consortium Grana Padano was ready to export 50,000 blocks of cheese into Russia.
This is according to Stefano Berni, General Director of the Consortium.
According to his words, each block costs around 400 euro, when it is exported abroad – its price increases to 1,000 euro. “You may calculate, what losses suffered our producers”, - he said.
Moreover many blocks were produced especially for the Russian market in anticipation of sales growth. Instead they stayed on the shelves, their cost decreased, he added. When the embargo was introduced Italian producers were in the process of promoting their products in Russia and developing the logistics. “Work of many years was lost”, - stated Stefano Berni.
