Italian Ambassador to Russia Pasquale Terraciano said that the idea of excluding parmesan cheese from the list of products subject to sanctions was discussed with the Russian authorities. The Italian diplomat believes that parmesan was included in the sanctions list due to a technical error. Russia allows lactose-free products, and there is no lactose in this type of cheese, he explained.
‘Now the decision of the Russian authorities remains negative,’ said Terraciano in an interview with RIA Novosti.
The Ambassador added that the Italian party would insist on its revision. He believes that the return of parmesan to Russia is not only in the interests of producers, but also consumers.
In 2014, Moscow imposed an embargo on food products from EU countries after the introduction of anti-Russian sanctions by Brussels. The Kremlin called on the West not to communicate with Russia in the language of economic restrictions, as this is a counterproductive method.
