Lyudmila Domakhina: processors in the south of Russia do not have enough raw milk

According to the Russian Dairy Research Center (RDRC), in 2016 the Russian enterprises processed 17.2 million tons of milk, which is by 0.8% more than in 2015. Milk processors interviewed by The DairyNews during the conference "Dairy industry of Russia in conditions of import substitution" emphasized that the processing capacity could be bigger if not for the acute shortage of raw milk.
"There is little milk and we don't have enough, we would like to have more high-quality milk," says Lyudmila Domakhina, head of laboratory №1 of LLC "Bely medved’". The expert notes that the company has enough capacity for milk processing. The situation is similar with other companies in the south of Russia, which, according to Lyudmila Domakhina, do not operate in full force.
Another problem, according to processors, is the sales of their products. "We are forced to sell our cheese very cheap, and the margins in the trade networks are enormous. We, working very hard to produce our cheese get 10-20 rubles of profit per kilogram. In commercial networks, our cheese reaches the consumer 2 times more expensive in price. This difference is just killing us," says Natalia Bandura, chief technologist of JSC "Syrodel", Stavropol Krai.
We will remind that the Russian Dairy Research (RDRC) has released the Rating of industrial consumption of milk in the regions of Russia. In 2016 10 regions-leaders processed a total of 7.9 million tons of milk or 45.94% of the total volume of processed milk in the country.
