Matvienko called not to allow excesses in the introduction of labeling of baby food
"We hope that in a short time one more our initiative will be adopted — on safe and healthy nutrition of children. The law should also introduce labelling of food products. The list of such products will be determined by the government. I ask you to approach this issue carefully and not to go too far, labelling everything down to sweets and pies", said Matvienko at the annual meeting with state secretaries-Deputy heads of Federal Executive bodies.
She said that Russian manufacturers are already appealing to her, worried that the new rules will make their business unprofitable. In particular, according to Matvienko, there was received an appeal from the Association of confectioners. "The other day I sent a letter with such a request to Deputy Prime Minister Alexey Gordeev. He generally shares this position, I hope there will be no excesses", said the speaker of the Federation Council.
The State Duma Committee on education and science recommended that the house adopt a bill on mandatory provision of primary school students with free hot meals in the second reading at a meeting on Thursday. The initiative was submitted to the State Duma by the speakers of both houses of the Russian Parliament Vyacheslav Volodin and Valentina Matvienko. The authors were also the Deputy speaker of the chamber Irina Yarovaya and the heads of all parliamentary factions. The draft law introduces the concept of "healthy food", establishes its principles, features of the organization of high-quality, safe and healthy food for children and certain groups of the population, says the explanatory note.
Discussion at the meeting of the Committee was caused by an amendment proposing to exclude from the bill the item on the introduction of "labeling of certain types of food products by means of identification". The Committee decided not to cancel the introduction of labeling for children's food products, but proposed to postpone the date of entry into force for this rule for a year after the entry into force of the law itself. According to the head of the Committee Vyacheslav Nikonov, during this time it will be possible to see the results of the experiment on labeling, in particular, dairy products.
The document provides for mandatory labeling of baby food products with special means of identification, which will be established by the government of the Russian Federation. It is assumed that the circulation of baby food products without labeling will be banned in Russia. It also introduces requirements for children's nutrition in general, in particular, a ban on the use of GMOs and agrochemicals in the production of children's food.
