Mikhail Mishchenko: 20.6 million tons of raw milk were produced in 2020
‘According to our estimates, 20.6 million tons of commercial milk were produced in 2020, excluding personal subsidiary farms. The dynamics compared to the previous year is 5.5%, the growth for the entire period under review is 30.1%. This is a huge growth, one of the highest in the world,’ the expert noted.
The state has heard the "voice" of the industry, which has been discussing the need for changes to the state program since 2010. The result was a government decree on amendments to the planned volume of commercial milk production — at the same time, Mikhail Mishchenko noted, in 2021, our producers have already exceeded this figure.
According to Director of Dairy Intelligence Agency, about the same amount of milk is processed in Russia as it is consumed. This is a confirmation that the indicator of the volume of milk produced is reliable.
‘The blue line on the graph below is the volume of production of dairy products in terms of raw milk. We see that we still produce more dairy products than milk is produced and processed. In fact, this difference has increased – it is to the question of import substitution. This difference is, in fact, what we buy in the form of exchange-traded products in other countries. In fact, we import quite a lot,’ Mikhail Mishchenko commented on the indicators.
The growth in the production of dairy products in terms of raw milk is also due to the pandemic, the expert noted.
