Mikhail Mishchenko: factors that can cause the growth of prices for milk do not exist
- In almost all regions of Russia we see an increase in the price of raw milk. The most significant growth is observed in the Central Federal district, but the trend is typical for other Federal districts, - said Mikhail Mishchenko.
The expert reminded that the factor of changes in the price of milk is import, which has an impact on the Russian market with a temporary rebound. For example, in autumn there was an increase in prices for exchange products, resulting in a seasonal increase in prices in Russia.
- For our country, among the price factors, the "state regulation" of relations with Belarus is of great importance. In spring, in the light of the surplus in the dairy market, Belarusian dairy enterprises were closed for supplies to Russia, now there is a certain deficit - Russia has agreed on balances for the next year. It is noteworthy that Russia and Belarus agreed on the volume of milk and dairy products supplies at the level of 4.9 million tons, this is the shortage of raw milk, which we calculated at the Russian Dairy Research Center, which once again confirms the correctness of our conclusions, - said the Director of RDRC.
At the moment, the price of raw milk is lower than last year. In 2017 in December domestic prices were at the level of about 24.56 rubles/kg. The Index RDRC was 25.34 rubles/kg.
Now the Index RDRC is 24.64 rubles/kg and the weighted average price is 23.53 rubles/kg. Prices are slightly below the level of 2017 and significantly below the level of 2016, said Mikhail Mishchenko.
- Compared to previous years, prices do not grow and there are objective reasons for this - the global surplus in the market of milk powder, which according to our estimates will increase. Especially in the case of Brexit, - said the expert.
According to Mikhail Mishchenko, "there are no significant factors that would lead to an increase in milk prices anywhere in the world. In Russia, they can grow only if first, Belarus will be completely closed for supplies, and secondly, the Technical Regulations "On safety of milk and dairy products" will be changed, as a result of which milk-containing products will be excluded from the document".
