Mikhail Mishchenko: in Russia there are enormous opportunities for growth in milk production, which we do not use

The concentration of production in Russia indicates the presence of unstable regions. "The agricultural complex and the leadership of the region in this case put themselves in dependence on one player", - commented on the situation in the dairy market the Director of the Russian Dairy Research Center Mikhail Mishchenko.
"I am not against agricultural holdings, but the most stable regions in the production of raw milk, such as Tatarstan, Bashkortostan, have a high proportion of small and medium - sized farms", said the Director of the RDRC.
According to Mikhail Mishchenko, in the Netherlands there are 41 cows per 1 sq. km, in Ireland there are 19 cows, in New Zealand - 18 cows, in Great Britain - 8.5 cows.
Russia takes the 100th place – there are 0.26 cows per 1 square km.
"No one is against the growth of production efficiency through the growth of milk yield, but we should not forget that our main means of production is earth. And you can squeeze as much as you want from the cow, but do not get from the earth those resources that we are given. The figure of 0.26 cows is not very true, taking into account the northern territories, but in the context of the regions-milk producers, the figures are small", the expert said.
For example, Bashkortostan takes the 30th place by the density of cows in Russia (1.03 cows), in Tatarstan the figure is 3.69 cows.
"The opportunities are enormous, we just need to use them", concluded Mikhail Mishchenko.
