Mikhail Mishchenko: In the future, Africa will be the most favorable destination for the export of breast milk substitutes
The expert identified 10 major global importers of breast milk substitutes. In 2019, this market was 1.4 million tons. China has the highest import figures for breast milk substitutes - more than 365 thousand tons, and Nigeria is in second place with volumes of almost 149 thousand tons. Malaysia closes the top three major global importers of breast milk substitutes by a large margin. There, imports are almost 76.5 thousand tons per year. Russia is in the 8th place in this rating with the volume of sales of breast milk substitutes abroad about 36.5 thousand tons.

At the same time, the main exporters are countries that produce raw milk. Mikhail Mishchenko also singled out the TOP 10 states - the largest processors. The first place is occupied by the Netherlands with an annual export volume of approximately 224 thousand tons. The second is France with slightly more than 183.5 thousand tons per year. Ireland is in third place – 147 thousand tons. Traditionally, New Zealand is considered the world's largest exporter. Its export volumes are 117 thousand tons. Switzerland closes the rating – 47.5 thousand tons per year. Russia was not included in the TOP 10.
Mikhail Mishchenko noted that the expert of the Rabobank Group organization announced a reduction in the import boom in China for purchases of imported breast milk substitutes. At the moment, the market is shrinking, and in the near future it may cease to exist at all, as this country will start exporting breast milk substitutes. Therefore, representatives of the industry need to think about other areas of sales of their products.
According to the Director of the Dairy Intelligence Agency (DIA), the countries with the largest population growth by 2050 are the most favorable destination for exporting breast milk substitutes. First of all, these are the states of the African continent.
- For example, in Nigeria, the population will increase by 244% by 2050. This is a huge amount. At the same time, there will be many children who will need healthy quality food, concluded Mikhail Mishchenko.
