Today the role of importers and exporters on the global dairy market is changing. This was stated by Mikhail Mishchenko, Director of the Russian Dairy Research Center (RDRC), reports The DairyNews.
"Those who have been long and remain exporters of dairy products can lose their position. This is less true for the US and New Zealand, and to a greater extent for the countries of the European Union", - said the expert.
The territory of the EU is limited, said Mikhail Mishchenko, and today it is profitable to produce milk in other countries.
"Yes, there are such countries as Ireland, which has the potential in production of milk. But it is important to consider a number of parameters: herd, area, population. Most of the European countries are not able to seriously increase the herd. If we compare the population density and density of livestock, we will see such examples as the Netherlands and Italy (especially the North), where the animals bother the people. There is no vacant areas in Europe today," - said the Director of the RDRC. - "At the same time those countries which have always been regarded as buyers, today, have ambitions in line with the growth of their milk production. They include Russia; some prospects have Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan. Kazakhstan has some ambitions. The development of Georgia and Kazakhstan is also possible. Ukraine, being an exporter, and rapidly losing its position, has the prospect of the development of dairy production. Such countries as India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Bangladesh, China, Vietnam, South-East Asia - enter other markets", - commented on the situation on the global market Mikhail Mishchenko.
The expert noted that "in the countries of South-East Asia there is little land for cattle breeding, but they are investing in the development of production in foreign markets. It's hard to call it exports. If the Chinese bought 70% of the Israeli market represented by the cooperative Tnuva, it does not mean an increase in Israeli exports in full. The Chinese did this in order to provide themselves with milk."
