Mikhail Mishchenko told how the dairy sector reacts to the fall of the ruble
According to Mikhail Mishchenko, Director of DIA, under the conditions of the weakening ruble, dairy producers have new economic opportunities and ways of development, but at the same time the situation is complicated by the need for imported equipment and feed ingredients.
‘The impact of the decrease of the ruble on domestic producers can be described as a situation between a rock and a hard place: on the one hand, the falling ruble makes it possible to sell Russian dairy products at higher prices, because imported milk is becoming more expensive. But on the other hand, it is worth considering the fact that some of the components and ingredients of animal feed are imported,’ said Mikhail Mishchenko. He noted that the falling ruble is generally useful for the economy of industrial production.
‘In my opinion, the current scenario of economic events is more acceptable than the one in which the ruble would strengthen. The weakening ruble means high prices and an opportunity to support domestic production. For example, farmers will choose Russian producers from a number of suppliers,’ said the Director of the DIA.
Earlier, The DairyNews reported that the price index of the Global Dairy Trade for dairy products increased by 0.4%.
