This year Russia can increase milk production by 700 thousand tons. This forecast was made by the first Deputy Minister of agriculture Dzhambulat Khatuov at the agro-industrial forum of the regions of the Ural Federal district in Yekaterinburg on Friday.
"During 2017 we have grown by 560 thousand tons, this year we expect to grow by 700 thousand tons", he said.
According to him, production growth has been observed for the last two years, it is associated with the measures of state support, which are introduced for the industry. "Half of the regions are increasing production, one third are stagnating, so it is very important for them to increase the productivity of dairy herds, improve feeding technology, the development of breeding work", he said.
D. Khatuov also said that the Ministry of agriculture plans to toughen penalties for milk producers receiving state support. "I think in the near future we will increase the responsibility for low results, because everyone who receives state support measures should have results. The approach will be tough", he stressed.
According to Rosstat, in 2017 the Russian Federation produced 31.1 million tons of milk, which is 1.2% more than a year earlier. According to the National Report on the results of agribusiness in 2017, the production forecast for 2018 is 31.3 million tons.
