"Molvest" launches a whey processing plant worth 2.4 billion rubles
"Whey is a secondary raw material resource that is left over after production of cheese and cottage cheese", explained Anatoly Losev, General Director of “Molvest”. – However, whey is a unique product of high biological value, the composition of which is as close as possible to the ideal animal protein, it contains lactose, vitamins and a complex of minerals. Previously, whey was drained into the sewers and was harmful to the environment. In Russia, whey ingredients are widely used in industrial food technologies – in the production of sports and baby food, in the baking and confectionery industry, as well as in the preparation of feed for farm animals".
Construction of the plant began in 2017. The total investment in the project amounted to 2.4 billion rubles. In terms of finished products, it is planned to produce 3 tons of whey protein concentrate per day and 27.3 tons of dry demineralized permeate per day.
"The topic of whey processing is currently a key issue for the industry. We see a significant increase in cheese production in Russia - which in turn indicates the emergence of significant volumes of whey. All major industries, including the group of companies "Molvest" invest in this industry. This area has very great prospects both in terms of domestic consumption and exports", - said the Director of the Dairy Intelligence Center (DIA) Mikhail Mishchenko.
The production of simple whey powder today is not as interesting as the production of products of deep processing. This category has great potential - including for supplies to the Middle East and Africa.
"We can regain a serious position in the export of whey. The “Kalacheevsky cheese factory” is a Russian-Danish project of “Molvest” group and Arla Foods cooperative. The competence of both “Molvest” and Arla can allow the new enterprise to take a leading position in the Russian market", stressed Mikhail Mishchenko.
