Molvest will invest 120 million rubles in expanding the production of whey

Cheese whey is a product that remains after the production of cheese and cottage cheese. It is used to produce whey protein concentrate, which is very valuable in its composition due to the content of protein and amino acids in it. From 200 tons of whey, only 1.5 tons of evaporated milk formula, which consists of 80% protein, is made. Whey protein concentrate is purchased by manufacturers of fitness nutrition and functional products.

The whey protein concentrate, as well as permeate, are produced at the plant located on the basis of Kalacheyevsky cheese factory (Kalach, Voronezh region). It started its work in early 2020. The volume of investments in construction amounted to 2.4 billion rubles. By the way, in Russia permeate in dry form is produced only by the Group of companies Molvest (other companies produce it in liquid form).

According to Anatoly Losev, General Director of the Group of companies Molvest, the market of milk powder products (whey protein concentrate and permeate) is young and one of the most promising in the industry. ‘These products are primarily in demand by manufacturers of sports nutrition and confectionery products. We predict that if all "covid" restrictions are lifted and the work of fitness clubs and gyms is restored, this market will grow by 25-30% per year,’ notes the head of the Group of companies Molvest. 

Currently, the volume of the Russian market of milk protein concentrate (CSB 80) is 3 thousand tons per year, of which the share of the Group of companies Molvest is about 1 thousand tons.
