Nikolay Somov: the growth of prices for butter is associated with the lack of milk fat

"In my opinion, the growth of prices for butter is associated with the lack of milk fat. I think that the regulatory authorities started to work more on the problem of falsification. This topic has become more frequently publicized in the media. Apparently all this led dishonest manufacturers to reduce the volume of falsification. As a result, we see that there was purchased significantly less of palm oil during the 1st quarter of the current year than in previous periods", - said Nikolay Somov.

We will remind that in January-February this year, the import of palm oil and its fractions has decreased by 17.2% in annual terms.

However, a number of market participants noted n their comments to The DairyNews that Russia does not have enough raw milk with sufficient fat content. "The growth of prices for butter is due to the fact that there is not enough fatty milk, and falsifiers are being pinched," said the Head of one of farms in Sverdlovsk region.

According to the "Association of milk processors", in Russia 90% of cheap butter and cheese is being falsified.
