Prices for raw milk continue to grow in the regions of the Russian Federation

According to the application Index DIA, the weighted average price of milk in Russia increased by 0.08% to 26.61 rubles (about 0.31 euros)/kg, which is 5.3% higher than the price in September 2020. Prices for raw milk decreased in Altai and Perm regions. The increase in prices of milk was observed in the Republic of Tatarstan, Sverdlovsk and Yaroslavl regions.

The import price index decreased by 0.13% to 37.32 rubles (about 0.44 euros)/kg, compared to September 2020, the indicator is 9.7% higher. The key factor in the decline of the indicator was the strengthening of the ruble and the decrease in the price of butter. At the auction of Trigona Dairy Trade, prices for skimmed milk powder, cheese and whey powder increased, but the price of butter decreased. The price of butter, taking into account the strengthening of the ruble compared to the previous auction, decreased by 4.7% to 358.5 rubles (about 4.19 euros)/kg, the price of cheddar increased by 1.3% to 332.9 rubles (about 3.90 euros)/kg, the price of skimmed milk powder increased by 2.5% to 230.5 rubles (about 2.70 euros)/kg. The price of whey powder increased by 4.5% to 86.5 rubles (about 1.01 euros)/kg.    

The import price of a pair of skimmed milk powder + butter decreased by 0.4% to 41.49 rubles (about 0.49 euros)/kg (1 kg in terms of milk). The import price of a pair of cheese + whey increased by 0.18% to 34.31 rubles (about 0.40 euros)/kg. The price of whole milk powder remained at the level of 30.45 rubles (about 0.36 euros)/kg.

Dairy Index DIA
Dairy Index DIA is calculated based on two key indicators, the weighted average price of milk in the Russian regions and the import price index. To calculate the weighted average price, the Agency developed and launched a crowdsourcing application Index DIA, which allows accumulating current data on the prices of raw milk in Russian regions from direct market participants, producers and processors of milk. The import price index is determined based on the prices of key exchange dairy products – skimmed milk powder, whole milk powder, butter, cheese and whey powder. The prices of imported dairy products are based on the prices of dairy products of the Belarusian universal commodity exchange (BUCE) and the prices at the sites of Trigona Dairy Trade and GlobalDairyTrade.
