Purchase milk price in Russia increased by 10-20% since the end of 2013 – retailers
Since the end of 2013 the purchase milk price in Russia increased by 10-20% depending on type of product. This is according to a X5 Retail Group representative.
Purchase price of liter of milk is wobbling around 27 rubles, in the end of 2012 it was 24 rubles, in 2009 – 10 rubles.
There are several reasons for this tendency. First of all the price increased due to the imposed by Rospotrebnadzor ban on milk from Europe and New Zealand – what resulted in demand growth on Russian and Lithuanian raw milk. For example, a pack of milk (0.9-1 l) in Saint Petersburg now costs 42-112 rubles depending on category and producer. Meanwhile FAS in Saint Petersburg plans to check all retailers in the context of milk products price increase. According to the government agency, raw milk supply decrease resulted from ineffective system of dairy producers subsidizing and technical regulations requirements toughening. May be dairy products price increase – is not only retailers’ fault, said FAS representative.
