Rosstat told about the acceleration of inflation in May
Since the beginning of the year, food products in the Russian Federation have risen in price by 4.85%.
Excluding fruit and vegetable products, food prices in May increased by 0.68% compared to April (by May last year - by 7.24%, by December 2020 - by 3.77%).
Non-food products for the last month rose in price by 0.74% (in annual terms - by 6.68%, by December - by 3.27%). Prices for alcoholic beverages in May increased by 0.34% compared to April. By May 2020, they increased by 2.33%, and by December - by 1.66%.
According to Rosstat data, chicken eggs in Russia in May fell in price by 6.8%, buckwheat rose in price by 2.7%, sunflower oil - by 1.6%, and sugar before the end of the agreement on the stabilization of prices for it - by 0.3%.
‘Chicken eggs on average in Russia fell in price by 6.8%, while in 19 subjects of the Russian Federation - by 0.3-4.9%, in 21 subjects - by 5-9.9%, in 25 subjects - by 10-19.9%, in 6 subjects - by 20-30.6%. In Moscow region, prices for chicken eggs have not changed. In 13 subjects, they rose by 0.1-5.6%,’ reports the statistical office.
Buckwheat on average in Russia rose in price by 2.7%, while in 22 subjects of the Russian Federation - by 0.2-1.9%, in 44 subjects - by 2-4.9%, in 13 subjects - by 5-11.8%. In two regions, prices did not change, and in four, buckwheat fell in price by 0.4-3.1%.
‘The increase in prices for sugar on average in Russia was 0.3%, while in 30 subjects of the Russian Federation – 0.1-0.9%, in 18 subjects - 1-1.9%, in 4 subjects - 2-5.9%,’ adds Rosstat. In 14 regions of the country, prices did not change, in 13 - sugar fell in price by 0.1-0.9%, and in six - by 1-5.8%.
‘On average, prices for sunflower oil in Russia increased by 1.6%, while in 18 subjects of the Russian Federation - by 0.1-0.9%, in 23 subjects - by 1-1.9%, in 17 subjects - by 2-2.9%, in 14 subjects - by 3-5.8%. Prices have not changed in 4 regions. In 9 regions, prices for sunflower oil decreased by 0.1-1.8%,’ the agency said.
In December, the government of the Russian Federation announced a set of measures in connection with the increase in food prices in Russia, among them - the conclusion of agreements on the stabilization of prices for sugar and sunflower oil produced in Russia. The agreements fix the maximum wholesale and retail prices: for sugar - 36 rubles per kilogram in wholesale and 46 rubles in retail, for sunflower oil - 95 rubles and 110 rubles, respectively. For sugar, the agreements are valid until June 1, for oil - until October 1, 2021.
In addition, the government of the Russian Federation for the period from June 5 to August 31 of this year imposed a ban on the export of buckwheat from the Russian Federation to stabilize domestic prices.
In May, beets in Russia rose by 35.3%, cabbage - by 25.2%, carrots - by 18.8%, potatoes - by 15.4%, tomatoes and cucumbers fell in price by 8.3% and 7.9%, respectively, says the Rosstat report.
‘In May, the increase in prices for certain types of fruit and vegetable products was: table beet – 35.3%, fresh white cabbage - 25.2%, carrots - 18.8%, potatoes - 15.4%, lemons - 12.8%, onions - 11.3%, grapes - 4.2%. At the same time, prices for tomatoes decreased by 8.3%, cucumbers – by 7.9%, bananas – by 1.3%, garlic – by 0.3%, fresh mushrooms – by 0.2%,’ the statistical office reports.
Bread and bakery products in May increased in price by 0.66% compared to April (compared to May 2020 - by 8.26%, compared to December - by 3.03%), cereals and legumes - by 1.1% (in annual terms - by 8.79%, since the beginning of the year - by 3.95%), pasta - by 0.32% (in annual terms - by 8.66%, since the beginning of the year - by 4.05%). Meat and poultry rose in price by 1.26% (in annual terms - by 10.92%, since the beginning of the year - by 8.25%).
Fish and seafood increased in price by 1.1% (in annual terms - by 7.96%, since the beginning of the year - by 4.46%), milk and dairy products - by 0.44% (compared to May last year - by 3.33%, since the beginning of this year - by 1.98%), butter - by 0.6% (in annual terms - by 4.48%, since the beginning of the year - by 2.23%).
Among other food products, mayonnaise rose significantly in May - by 3%, lamb (except boneless meat) and buckwheat - by 2.7%, margarine - by 2.4%, beef liver - by 2.1%, pork - by 2%) salted, pickled, smoked fish, frozen squid, as well as caramel and cream ice cream - by 1.6%.
Live and chilled fish, peas and beans rose by 1.5%, cottage cheese curds, glazed with chocolate – by 1.4%. At the same time, prices for millet decreased by 0.4%.
