“Rusmolco” will conduct online selection of livestock for the first time
For the first time, “Russian dairy company” will conduct online selection of livestock. The batch of animals selected in this way will arrive at the “Rusmolco” dairy complex designed for 5,200 heads under construction in Serdobsky district of Penza region in June. Completing the farm with livestock continues according to the previously approved schedule, which provides the delivery of about 4,500 animals by the end of the year.
The specialists of the company will remotely inspect the animals located at the suppliers' sites in Germany. This time they will have to select 900 heads of highly productive Holstein breed: 600 heifers with a pregnancy period of 3-5 months and 300 heifers aged 7-11 months.
The selection of animals takes place in two stages. At the first stage, the reproduction specialists of “Russian dairy company” will evaluate the breeding potential by reviewing the pedigree cards, which contain complete information about the origin of each animal. Special attention will be paid to the study of the breeding and productive qualities of all ancestors, including indicators of fat and protein content. In addition, when selecting heifers, much attention will be paid to the age of the animals at calving, as well as to the sire to assess the potential of the future generation obtained from the livestock.
At the second stage, the selected animals will be examined online. When selecting dairy cattle, evaluating the development of the animal in accordance with age and evaluating the exterior plays the most important role, because the exterior qualities of the animal are closely related to its production potential. In addition, specialists will assess the state of health, check the absence of skin, hoof and other diseases.
“Rusmolco” started supplying livestock to the largest dairy farm in Russia in 2019. To date, the total number of livestock on the complex is more than 5,000 heads. When it reaches full capacity, there will be 10,400 heads.
“Rusmolco” announced the construction of a dairy complex for 5,200 heads in Serdobsk district in the summer of 2019. The project is a closed-cycle farm and is implemented in two stages. At the end of last year, the company commissioned the first stage of the dairy complex, and the second stage will be completed by the end of 2020.
