Russia and Kazakhstan did not notice a drop in milk consumption due to the pandemic
"The situation with consumption in Russia was influenced to a greater extent by the fall in oil prices, the fall in the ruble exchange rate, and the presence of socio-political problems. Together, they have had a much more negative impact than the coronavirus pandemic", said Mikhail Mishchenko. However, the expert added that the pandemic showed that people began to give more preference to milk, leaving products with substitutes on the shelves.
Dinmukhamed Aysautov, expert of the Dairy Union of the Republic of Kazakhstan, summarizing his report on the situation of the dairy market in the Republic of Kazakhstan, noted that in general, the situation with consumption in the two countries is similar.
"There is no volatility in the consumption of dairy products. According to colleagues from the industry, there was no fall, as there was no noticeable rise. During the pandemic, the country had a similar reaction to the one in Russia – the population was stocking up on food", the expert said.
According to Mr. Aysautov, in general, the food sector in the country has shown good growth, and this is when you consider that some measures in Kazakhstan related to quarantine have extended for a longer period. People consumed a lot, and speaking of the dairy industry, the average consumption was within the standard median.
Earlier we wrote that according to Soyuzmoloko, the drawdown in demand for dairy products in the Russian Federation did not occur due to the fact that a significant number of consumers remained in the country during active holidays.
