Russia continues to reduce imports of meat and butter, but dramatically increases imports of palm oil

In the first half of 2018 Russia has maintained the dynamics of food imports, observed in the beginning of the year: the import of meat and butter is reduced, but supplies of apples and palm oil are growing tremendously.
As reported by the FCS on Tuesday, the supply of meat (without poultry) amounted to 190 thousand tons ($692.8 million), which is by 35.6% (by 26.2% in value terms) less than for 6 months last year. Imports of poultry meat fell to 98.9 thousand tons ($157.2 million). This is by 14.9% (by 14.5%) less than a year ago. Deliveries of condensed milk and cream amounted to 71.6 thousand tons ($138.8 million), having decreased by 37.3% (by 47.8%), butter - 36.7 thousand tons at $176.7 million (by 38.1% and 43.3% less, respectively).
The import of fish remained almost at the level of last year and amounted to 197.6 thousand tons, but the cost increased by $17.7% to $605.5 million.
At the same time, the import of cheese and cottage cheese in real terms increased by 13.1% to 123.1 thousand tons. But their cost decreased by 1.5% to $447 million.
Coffee supplies increased by 9.7% to 95.6 thousand tons ($294.6 million), tea supplies decreased by 0.2% to 84.4 thousand tons ($260.9 million).
The import of bananas increased by 3.8% to 852 thousand tons ($637.5 million), citrus – by 12.2% to 804.5 thousand tons ($583.2 million). The import of apples went up by almost a third - to 658.9 thousand tons ($465.4 million). The supplies of palm oil increased by 26.2% to 480.1 thousand tons ($359.4 million).
The supply of cocoa - containing products also grew at a high rate of 64.8% (up to 60.1 thousand tons). Imports of cocoa beans increased by 11.3% to 24.6 thousand tons ($65.5 million), cocoa butter – by 19.5% to 16.2 thousand tons ($91.9 million).
The import of raw sugar was only 2.7 thousand tons ($2.1 million). This is 76.9% less than a year before. The import of white sugar decreased by 0.8% to 144.2 thousand tons ($60.1 million).
Alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages were imported at $1,175 billion, which is 20.9% more than in January-June last year, cigarettes and cigars – at $78.4 million (21.8% more). The supply of tobacco raw materials decreased by 6.5% to 72.7 thousand tons (at $332.6 million).
