Russia decreased import of meat and increased import of fish, cheese and fruit in January-March - FCS

In the first quarter of 2018 compared to the same period last year Russia reduced imports of meat, condensed milk and butter, but increased supplies of fish, cheese and cottage cheese, fruits and other products.
According to the FCS, the supply of meat (without poultry) amounted to 92.9 thousand tons ($331.2 million), which is 27.6% (15%) less than in the first quarter of last year. Import of poultry meat decreased by 1.1% (4.6% in value terms) to 49.1 thousand tons ($76 million).
Supplies of condensed milk and cream amounted to 36.8 thousand tons ($72.5 million), having decreased by 36% (by 47%) compared to January-March 2017, butter - 14.5 thousand tons for $74.9 million (45% and 47.7% less, respectively), meat products and canned meat - 3.7 thousand tons for $16.8 million (21% and 3.4% less, respectively).
At the same time, import of fish grew by 8%, to 119.8 thousand tons ($321.4 million), coffee - by 9.4%, to 45.7 thousand tons ($144.9 million), tea - by 3.7%, to 39.8 thousand tons ($124.5 million). Banana supplies increased by 2.2%, to 415.8 thousand tons ($315.8 million), citrus fruits - by 5.8%, to 561.3 thousand tons ($393.6 million), apples - by 19.9%, to 328.7 thousand tons ($210.3 million).
Import of raw sugar amounted to only 1.3 thousand tons ($1 million). This is 85.2% less than in the first quarter last year. At the same time, the import of white sugar increased by 8.3% to 70.5 thousand tons ($28 million).
The supplies of cocoa beans increased by 15.7% to $12.5 thousand tons ($32.9 million), cocoa butter - by 13% to 8.3 thousand tons ($47.3 million). Alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages were imported at $522.5 million, which is 20.9% more than in the first quarter last year, cigarettes and cigars – at $22.8 million (20.8% less). Supplies of tobacco raw materials increased by 1.1% to 36.3 thousand tons ($162.4 million).
