Russian food embargo had no impact on European farmers

Experts of the Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration (RANEPA) came to a conclusion that European farmers didn’t suffer from Russian food embargo. According to RANEPA analysts, European food suppliers redirected supplies to other countries. As a result decrease of export in value terms reached only 7%.
European countries which found themselves under Russian sanctions found alternative markets for their produce quite quickly, noted specialists from Academy.
There are some groups of producers who experience difficulties, but Europe in general has increased export during the period of food embargo, what means that new markets were found, concluded in RANEPA.
According to Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Agricultural Issues Sergey Karginov, the food embargo has made positive impact on Russian farmers, but they need to work at “costs reduction and quality improvement”.
Earlier Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that the food embargo is unlikely to be abolished in the nearest future.
