Soyuzmoloko: Prohibition of the use of milk powder in the production of cheeses is a radical measure

Soyuzmoloko once again stressed that "the issue of any ban should be treated as carefully as possible". Industrial Association commented on the issues discussed in the Ministry of agriculture to limit the use of milk powder and vegetable fats in the production of dairy products, writes The DairyNews.
At the meeting in the Ministry of agriculture there was considered the issue of the use of milk powder in the production of dairy products, as well as the use of vegetable fats in the production of categories relating to milk-containing products.

Under the supervision of the Director of the Department of economy, investments and regulation of markets of agro-industrial complex Anatoly Kutsenko and the Director of the Department of food processing industries Eugeniy Akhpashev market participants discussed the initiatives of the Ministry of agriculture.

Soyuzmoloko still supports the desire of the Ministry of agriculture to solve the problem of falsification on the dairy market, but it is worth emphasizing that the use of vegetable fats in dairy products is legally prohibited today. Its use is allowed only in milk-containing products. The presence of non-dairy components is always mentioned on the label, and according to the new amendments will be further reported on the front side of the package in large print on a contrasting background, stressed the press service of the Department.

Soyuzmoloko reminded that vegetable fats are used in the production of powdered infant formula, as there is still no better way in the world to bring this product to the breast milk by the composition of fatty acids.

- As for the ban on the use of milk powder in the production of cheeses, such radical measures will lead to extremely negative changes. Currently, according to the world practice, milk powder is a raw material for the production of many products, including fermented dairy products, yoghurts, processed cheeses, ice cream. According to the requirements of the legislation, it is allowed to add milk powder to the product to normalize protein content due to seasonality. Milk powder is a completely natural product made exclusively by drying natural pasteurized milk, it does not bear any risks for the consumer and has the same properties as raw milk. Moreover, the development of drying industries and the market of processed cheeses would further stabilize the situation with the formed surplus of milk, so the Board of Soyuzmoloko considers such an initiative inappropriate and disastrous for Russian enterprises, - concluded the press service of the Association.
