Soyuzmoloko proposes to reduce the indicators of identification in yogurt

As reported in the Dairy Union of Russia (RSPMO), on May 23, the Ministry of agriculture held a meeting to discuss specific proposals and remarks to the draft amendment No. 2 of the technical regulations of the Customs Union "On safety of milk and dairy products", informs The DairyNews.
As it was explained in the Dairy Union of Russia, the meeting there was discussed the offer of Soyuzmoloko to change the concept of "yogurt" in the TR CU 033/2013, as well as indicators of identification in the yogurt. The initiative of Soyuzmoloko to reduce the standards for the indicator "mass fraction of dry skimmed milk residue – 9.5 %" in the yogurt was not supported by the Dairy Union of Russia, representatives of dairy industry companies who were present at the meeting, as well as representatives of the Federal state budgetary scientific institution VNIMI (All-Russian research Institute of dairy industry – a developer of standards and guidelines for the production of yogurt).

The main argument – except or decline of "dry skimmed milk residue" in yogurt, is the intentional reduction of indicators of quality of traditional fermented milk product, which is unacceptable.

As noted by Doctor of technical sciences Zinaida Zobkova if the yogurt is made in accordance with all rules and regulations, according to the traditional recipe developed by VNIMI, Russian producers have never had any problems with the indicator dry skimmed milk residue "at least 9.5 %" in yogurt.

At the meeting it was decided to come back to the issue again and discuss it in the Ministry of agriculture in the context of presented recipes of yogurt both from companies interested in lowering the discussed indicator and from the enterprises of the Dairy Union of Russia and VNIMI (laboratory of technology of dairy products under the leadership of D. T. S. Zobkova Z.S.).

The companies of the EEU manufacturing yogurt within classic range according to traditional recipes that support the position of the Dairy Union of Russia in accordance with the established in the CU TR 033/2013 standards for yogurt, can also address their recipes and calculations of the indicator " dry skimmed milk residue " to the Directorate of the Dairy Union of Russia and the Secretariat of the TC 470/532 MTK to argue in favor of preserving traditions in the segment of fermented dairy products. Against the background of declining consumer demand it is unacceptable to degrade the quality of classic dairy products, stressed in RSPMO.

The second block of questions concerned the proposals of Soyuzmoloko in terms of elimination or change of separate indicators for infant food of early age and observations on the proposals from the Republic of Belarus and the Dairy Union of Russia.

"The position of the Dairy Union of Russia remains the same – we are opposed to exclusions and changes of the traditional for decades Russian standards in food for children of early age, and we believe such proposals to be risky for the health of children. In particular, we consider not sufficiently reasonable the proposals to expand the possible concentration of vitamin D used for the enrichment in baby food. Increasing the dose of any nutritional supplement, including vitamin D, it is always a risky move, especially in the diet of infants, and can lead to allergies and toxic effects," commented in the Dairy Union of Russia, noting that currently, the Directorate of RSPMO finds no compelling arguments in favor of this change.

Nevertheless, on the basis of the conclusion of the Federal research center on food and biotechnology the proposal of Soyuzmoloko was supported by the Ministry of agriculture of the Russian Federation. Other suggestions of Soyuzmoloko in terms of exclusion from TR TS 033/2013 separate indicators for food of children of early age were also supported by the Federal research center on food and biotechnology.
