The bovine leukemia is registered in 71 regions of Russia

Andrew Mukovkin, Deputy Director on veterinary of the Federal State budgetary institution "Center of Veterinary" in his speech said that during recent years, since 2008, the situation with leukemia in Russia has been improving. "The number of animals with leukemia decreased from 54 000 heads in 2007 to just over 30,000 head in 2016. The number of unfavorable areas has also decreased from 196 to 134. The following territories are fully recovered from leukemia: the Republic of Komi, Bashkortostan, Mordovia, Altai, Kamchatka region, Murmansk and Sakhalin regions. The number of newly detected areas affected by leukemia decreased from 271 to 134. At the end of the reporting period the total number of registered unfavourable areas decreased from 1974 to 1,755. New unfavourable areas for leukemia in 2016 were detected in 27 subjects of the Russian Federation. Improvement was noted in Lipetsk, Orel, Ulyanovsk and Stavropol regions. A very tense situation for leukemia remains in Novosibirsk region (188 areas), Chelyabinsk, Krasnodar, Kaluga, Kurgan, Tver and Moscow regions. In 2016 41 new unfavourable area were identified on the territory of Kaluga region, 939 heads of cattle were ill", - said the expert in his report.

The Deputy Director on veterinary of the Federal State budgetary institution "Center of Veterinary" also noted that in 2016 the greatest economic damage from infectious diseases of cattle was caused by three diseases: leukemia, nodular dermatitis and brucellosis, which were the cause of disease of 58 000 heads of cattle or more than 82% of the total number of sick animals.

We will remind, the Ministry of agriculture is preparing amendments to the technical regulations "On safety of food products" that allow to use milk from cows infected with leukemia in the production.
