The complication of the economic situation due to the spread of coronavirus, the deterioration of the financial condition of many food producers, including dairy products, make it urgent to reject labelling these products, believe in the National Union of milk producers (Soyuzmoloko).

"It is necessary to raise the issue of refusing to introduce an expensive system for labeling finished dairy products, which in many ways duplicates the current system "Mercury", - said Alexey Voronin, Director of the analytical department of Soyuzmoloko at an online meeting on support for small and medium-sized businesses in the agro-industrial complex, which was held by State Duma Deputy Mikhail Shchapov.

His words were cited by the Deputy's press service. As noted by Voronin, the cost of implementing labeling in the industry is estimated at 35 billion rubles.

"At present, this is an unaffordable amount for the industry, it is comparable to its annual profit", he said, stressing that this issue is "quite serious for small and medium - sized businesses".

As reported, the government by an order dated March 30 this year set the deadline for the introduction of mandatory labeling of dairy products - January 20, 2021. In early April, the term of the experiment on labeling these products was extended until December 31, 2020. The experiment, which has been running in Russia since July 15, 2019, formally ended on March 31. The Ministry of industry and trade first offered to extend its term until May 31, then - until August 31. Based on the results of the experiment, it is planned to determine the product categories that will be subject to labeling.

The operator of the labeling system is CATD - a joint venture of USM of Alisher Usmanov (USM Technologies, 50%), GC Rostech (concern “Automatics”, 25%) and Alexander Galitsky's “Elvis-Plus group” (25%). Many representatives of the dairy industry have previously opposed mandatory labeling, considering it unnecessary and high-cost measure.
