The dairy market of Belgorod region: stable and balanced growth of large-scale production
Belgorod region is the third largest producer of raw milk in the Central Federal district and the twelfth largest in Russia. Agricultural enterprises of the region increased the production of raw milk by 12.3% to 536.8 thousand tons. Peasant farm holdings increased the production of raw milk by 2.6% to 39.2 thousand tons.
The largest players in the industry increased the volume of raw milk production, Zelenaya Dolina (GC EFKO) increased the volume of milk production in 2019 by 10.15%, GC Avda - by +7.5%, Tommoloko - by +34.7%, at the same time the share of none of the players exceeds 20% in the milk market, ensuring stable development of the industry.
The number of cows in Belgorod region increased by 5.6% to 80.5 thousand head. In the agricultural enterprises, the number of cows in 2019 reached 71.8 thousand head, 6% more than in 2018. Peasant farm holdings increased the number of cows by 3% to 8.7 thousand head. The average size of a peasant farm holding in Belgorod region was 63 cows per farm, the average size of an agricultural enterprise - 2,394 cows per farm (first place in the Russian Federation).
The number of cows per 1 km2 in Belgorod region in 2019 was 2.9 per km2. The number of inhabitants per cow is 19.
Milk consumption in the region in 2019 increased by 16% to 226.8 kg per capita.
The surplus of milk in terms of final consumption was 224.8 thousand tons (the eighth place in the Russian Federation and the second in the Central Federal district).
From the point of view of industrial consumption, there is a shortage of raw milk in the region, the volume of milk processing exceeds the actual volume of raw milk production by 74 thousand tons.
The volume of processed milk in the region in 2019 increased by 8.3% to 650 thousand tons (sixth in the Russian Federation and the second in the Central Federal district). Production of whole milk products in the region decreased in 2019, by 4.2% to 321.8 thousand tons (the eleventh place in the Russian Federation and the second in the Central Federal district).
Production of cheeses (excluding processed ones) in Belgorod region increased by 16% in 2019 to 36.9 thousand tons (the third place in the Russian Federation and the second in the Central Federal district). The output of cheese products increased by only 1.5% to 2 thousand tons. The production of cottage cheese products increased by 41% to 3.5 thousand tons, and the production of cottage cheese increased by 11% to 6.2 thousand tons.
Production of skimmed milk powder in the region increased by 9% to 5,616. 5 tons (the fifth place in Russia and the second in the Central Federal district). On the contrary, the volume of whole milk powder production decreased by 20.4% to 1,101. 6 tons (the ninth place in the Russian Federation and the third in the Central Federal district).
Butter production also decreased in 2019 by 3.7% to 7,778. 7 tons (the eleventh place in the Russian Federation and the fourth in the Central Federal district).
Condensed milk production in 2019 was 84.6 tons, 6% more than in 2018.
There are 28 milk processing enterprises in the region. Several large holdings operate in the market of milk processing, at the same time none of the players occupies more than 20% of the market of raw milk.
