"This year we are making dairy cattle breeding a special priority. I think the diversification of agriculture and increasing the share of cattle breeding is basically the right topic," said Deputy Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovich at the regional agrarian conference in Stavropol on Tuesday.
At the same time, he noted that constant attention should be paid to grain production, although "there are no very serious fears for grain." "Melioration, proper use of mineral fertilizers, crop rotation should remain the focus of attention," he said.
"Nevertheless, cattle breeding should gradually come into the foreground," said the Deputy Prime Minister. - We have a shortage of milk in the country, about 25% of our consumption. Today we produce about 31 million tons; we need at least 40 million tons to ensure our own consumption".
The deficit is now covered by supplies from Belarus. "But we would like to achieve the necessary volumes ourselves", - said A. Dvorkovich.
